Educational Psychologist · Johannesburg
Compassionate, evidence-based assessment, therapy, and support for individuals across the life span — children, adolescents, adults, and families.
About Jessica
I am a registered Educational Psychologist based in Bryanston, Johannesburg, working with children, adolescents, adults, and families.
I hold Honours and Master's degrees in Educational Psychology from the University of Pretoria — completing my Master's coursework with distinction — and completed my internship in Johannesburg within a multidisciplinary school-based team.
My work spans assessment, individual therapy, and family consultation, with a particular focus on neurodivergent learners, resilience-building, and narrative and expressive approaches.
I stay current through ongoing CPD, research, and peer collaboration.
What I Offer
Comprehensive psychological support tailored to each individual's unique needs, strengths, and circumstances.
Individual therapy for children, adolescents, and adults navigating emotional, behavioural, social, or developmental challenges. Drawing on narrative, expressive, and evidence-based approaches, sessions are tailored to the individual — safe, collaborative, and focused on meaningful change.
Comprehensive assessments to understand a child's cognitive profile, academic skills, and areas of strength and support — providing clarity, diagnosis support, recommendations and a roadmap for intervention. Results are shared with parents and, where appropriate, school teams.
Formal assessments for mood, anxiety, personality, and other mental health concerns — providing diagnostic clarity and informing a tailored treatment or referral plan.
Formal assessments to support applications for assessment accommodations in examinations — including extra time, a reader, or a scribe. Reports meet the requirements of the relevant examining bodies.
Structured assessments and counselling to support informed decisions about subject choices and career direction. Drawing on interest, aptitude, and personality assessments, sessions provide a clear framework for Grade 9 subject selection, Grade 11 and 12 tertiary applications, and career planning at any life stage.
Specialist support for children with ADHD, autism spectrum profiles, specific learning disorders (dyslexia, dyscalculia, and dysgraphia), and other learning differences — focusing on strengths-based approaches that help neurodivergent learners thrive.
Structured group programmes focusing on social skills, resilience, anxiety management, and peer relationships — delivered in school or community settings.
Targeted strategies for children experiencing academic difficulties, including reading, writing, mathematics, attention, and executive function challenges. Intervention plans are developed collaboratively with parents and educators.
Collaborative sessions with parents and educators to share insights, align strategies, and build consistent support across home and school environments.
Common Questions
An Educational Psychologist is a registered professional trained in assessment, diagnosis, psychotherapy, and counselling. In South Africa, educational psychologists work with individuals across the life span — children, adolescents, and adults — supporting emotional, social, developmental, behavioural, learning, and academic functioning. Beyond individual therapy, educational psychologists work holistically with families, schools, and communities to promote mental health and wellbeing. All educational psychologists are registered with the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA).
An assessment may be beneficial if your child is struggling academically despite effort, experiencing emotional or behavioural difficulties, showing signs of anxiety or low self-esteem, having challenges with reading, writing, or attention, or if you simply want a deeper understanding of how your child learns and thinks. I am happy to have an initial consultation to help you decide whether an assessment is the right step.
The first session is an intake conversation — an opportunity to share what's brought you in, your background, and what you're hoping to achieve. For younger clients, parents are typically involved in this initial meeting. I use this time to listen carefully, answer your questions, and recommend the most appropriate way forward. Everything discussed is treated with strict confidentiality.
Yes, for people living in South Africa. Online sessions are available for consultations, assessment feedback, therapeutic work with adolescents, and parent guidance sessions. Certain psycho-educational assessments require in-person testing, but where possible I accommodate families who prefer the flexibility of virtual appointments.
As a registered BHF and HPCSA practitioner, my sessions are generally claimable from most South African medical aid schemes under their mental health or psychology benefits. Coverage varies by plan, so I recommend checking with your medical aid directly. I can provide all necessary documentation to support your claim.
Therapeutic work is more open-ended; some people prefer ongoing therapy, while others find that six to twelve sessions make a meaningful difference. We review progress regularly and always work at a pace that feels right for you or your child. The length of an assessment depends on the assessment required and the client's pace of work. Typically, it involves two to three sessions of testing, followed by a feedback session and written report — usually completed within three to four weeks depending on the report required.
Sessions are by appointment. I respond to messages and emails within 1–2 business days.
